Prominent safety group, Safety Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (SAEF) on Thursday, November 30 embarked on a facility tour of Nigeria’s largest power plant, Egbin Power Plc in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The group, which was received by the Managing Director, Egbin Power Plc, Mr Dallas M. Peavey Jnr, was conducted round the demineralisation facility, fresh water treatment facility, and turbine and generator facilities on the plant.
The Executive Director, Strategies for SAEF, Engr. Jamiu Badmos, who led the group, said that the tour was initiated to acquaint members of the group with the nitty-gritty of electricity generation in the country and to enable the safety professionals contribute to health and safety implementation of the plant.
He said, “We want to learn more about how electricity is generated in Nigeria, the real practical way and not the theoretical way that we have learned in books.
“And we want to see how we can contribute to health and safety implementation in the place.”
Furthermore, Badmos commended the Head, Health, Safety and Environment, Egbin Power Plc, Mrs Prisca Iwunze, who is a member of the group, for commendable HSE initiatives in the company, adding that her “outstanding” performance has helped portray the group in positive light.
He disclosed that the group would continue to support its members in their professional endeavours to engender professionalism and move the practice of HSE forward in the country.
In his welcome address, Peavey Jnr said that Egbin Power places emphasis on safety in line with global best practice in the industry.
While lauding the company’s HSE team led by Iwunze, he stressed that Egbin Power Plc was celebrating 909 days (as at November 30) without Loss Time Accidents because of the team’s professionalism and diligence.
He added that the company is always willing to share experiences of its operations with professionals and also learn from them in the process.
