How To Identify Genuine School Safety Agents In Lagos

Following uncertainty surrounding the status of safety agents in the school safety audit programme of the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSC), a senior official of the commission has disclosed how schools can identify genuine agents.

The clarification is coming against the backdrop of reported complaints by some schools and safety professionals who claimed that some agents had been going to schools for inspection but with inappropriate documentation.

A school safety practitioner and school administrator, Mrs Ike Aigbogun-Osho, in a post on her personal Facebook page called attention to the issue, urging school owners to be wary of such “fake” agents.

In the October 13 post, she said, “I hear fake auditors claiming to be from Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) are still going from school to school.

“They came to mine and received a beautiful shock.

“No ID. No letter from LSSC and you thought my people will enter one chance and let you in?

“When their threats didn’t work, they now said they wanted to help us.

“Schools open your eyes. Biko o…”

When contacted, the Director, Enforcement and Compliance at LSC, Mrs Ronke Odeneye, disclosed that genuine agents are expected to possess letters signed and sealed by the Director General of the commission.

She added that the DG’s phone number was also enclosed should there be a need for confirmation by school owners.
