Building Collapse in Nigeria:  An Urgent Wakeup Call for a Lasting Solution

The spate of building collapse in Nigeria in recent times has become very alarming and worrisome, resulting in the loss of many lives and properties, such that  many property owners have developed high blood pressure and some have been sent to their early graves, due to their inability to absorb the shock of their losses.

This menace also casts a slur on the competence of the nation’s building community of architects, structural engineers and builders –who are the professionals responsible for designing and monitoring construction works at building sites.

These professionals are being attacked from all angles because of the recurring spate of building collapse. The truth is, one cannot totally blame the building professionals as it has been proved that owners of buildings under construction often derail from the approved plan, relying more on their imagination and fantasy.
