The Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Hon. Hakeem Dickson has disclosed that the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode will be meeting with CEOs of businesses in the state in 2018.
Dickson made this known while delivering a lecture in line with the theme of the 2017 World Congress on Safety and Health at Work which held in Singapore in September.
The safety commission boss disclosed that in recognition of the aim to achieve “Vision Zero,” driving workplace-related accidents to its barest minimum in the state, the commission has planned a meeting between the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode and at least 700 heads of businesses in the state for 2018.
He added that at the meeting the governor would acquaint the business leaders with the workplace safety expectations of the state.
According to him, Vision Zero went beyond achieving no fatality or serious injury in the workplace, but creating the mind-set in the general populace of always doing things the safest way possible.
Dickson, whose lectured was titled “Towards Vision Zero: A Guide for Business Leaders Towards A Safer and Healthier Workplace,” disclosed that achieving Vision Zero in any workplace was impossible without the buy-in of top management of that organisation.
He said, “Effective Health, Safety and Wellbeing performance comes from the top; members of the board have both collective and individual responsibility for health and safety.
“Without top management buying in, we are all doing nothing.”
