There was panic in the Long Bridge end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when a petrol-laden tanker crashed and its content spilt on the road, causing a fire incident that engulfed the tank and a section of the bridge.

PUNCH Metro reports that the tanker driver was conveying the content to a destination in Ogun State when the incident occurred on Tuesday.

The impact of the crash was said to have led to an explosion that made motorists driving inbound Ogun State to abandon the side and drove against the traffic to their destinations.

The cause of the crash and the casualty figures could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

A source said, “The tanker is burning in the Elala area of the Long Bridge, we are expecting the fire service. We don’t know the cause of the fire because everywhere is burning. For now, we can’t confirm any casualty until the fire has been put out.”

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Clement Oladele.
