Dr Gerald Ndubuisi Okeke is a native of Umulogho Obowo in Imo State, Nigeria.
Born on the 15th of November 1963, Dr Okeke is experienced and certified HSE professional with over 31 years of experience in the oil and gas and allied industries.
A well-read man, Dr Okeke bagged an HND in Public Relations and Advertising from the Institute of Communication of Nigeria and Professional Diploma in Safety and Security from the River State University of Science and Technology.
He also obtained a professional HND in Safety and Security from Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori in 2012. Furthermore, he got a PGD in Human Resources Management from OBE School, London in 2013; a Masters in Energy and Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka in 2015 and a Ph.D. in Industrial Safety and Environment Management from Atlantic National University, USA.
He has also undertaken 132 Professional HSE courses in the oil & gas industry till date.
Dr Okeke has garnered much-needed experience and exposure in the oil and gas industry, spanning over a period of 31 years as a certified Safety & Environmental Specialist or Officer at notable organisations including Shell Petroleum Development Company Nigeria Limited, Chevron Nigeria Limited (on secondment from Brentford Engineering Ltd), and Noble Drilling, Houston, Texas-USA.
The experience attending these courses, which has given him a much-deserved boost in his profession, especially since one of the central themes of the safety profession is ensuring that no one gets hurt while working and the knowledge gathered from these courses has helped him reduce accidents and incidents at different work sites.
Dr Okeke has accomplished a lot in the field of Health, Safety & Environment, helping his organisation clock 5 million man-hours without any major recordable incident.
For his meritorious service, he won the best HSE Officer award from the Managing Director of Noble Drilling in 2001 and the best behavioral-based safety award (BBS Program) in Chevron Nigeria Limited in 2004.
His Paper on Causes & Consequences of Accidents was also awarded during the Association of Safety Practitioners Conference in 2012.
To date, Dr Okeke has trained up to 5,000 students in higher institutions in Nigeria as a certified Instructor/Trainer by Chevron, Noble Drilling-USA, and Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria.
He is equally a resource person for seminars on Safety, Health and Environment for radio and television houses, secondary schools, universities, polytechnics and oil servicing companies that working within the Niger Delta Region and beyond.
Furthermore, he has trained thousands of people on Domestic Safety Awareness in many churches & market places such as – Stars of Heaven Covenant Church, Happy Home Bible Church, Eagles Liberty Church & TREM ministries, and so on.
He has also presented papers at dozens of seminars and workshops in Nigeria and abroad.
Dr Okeke is a passionate professional who believes that ensuring that people work safely daily is good business, a belief that gives him extraordinary joy and satisfaction.
He is a Fellow of the Emergency, Crisis & Disaster Risk Management Institute (ECRMI) and SAFERR Ambassador Plenipotentiary from World Safety Organisation (WSO), Nigeria.
He also holds professional membership of Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), National Safety Association of Nigeria (NSAN), National Association for Safety Specialist (NASS), American Society for Safety Professionals (ASSP), Association of Registered Safety Practitioners of Nigeria (ARSPN), World Safety Organisation (WSO), OSHA, USA, and African Clean up Initiatives (ACI).
