Fifteen persons have been confirmed dead Tuesday in a ghastly crash that happened at the Omi River, Ajegunle bridge, along Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Highway.
Ogun Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Clement Oladele, made this known in a statement signed by the state command’s Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe.
He said 38 persons sustained different injuries in the accident which involved a white-coloured Mitsubishi canter truck with registration number xe331mka.
Reports indicated that the truck was jam-packed leading to the death of 15 people, all males. The vehicle veered off the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode road and plunged into the Omi river.
He explained that the FRSC Unit Commander Ijebu-Ode led rescue operators along with personnel from the Ago Iwoye Outpost Command to the scene of the accident.
The evacuation process was made easier as the river had dried up, he revealed.
According to the statement, the bodies of the fatalities have been taken to the Sabo area in Ijebu Ode while the injured persons were rushed to the State Hospital Ijebu-Ode.
The Sector Commander sympathised with the families of the deceased.
Oladele seized the opportunity to urge passengers against boarding vehicles designed only for conveying goods as it spelt doom for their safety as a whole.
