A pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) caught fire on Sunday night in Abule-Egba area of Lagos state, Safety Record can report.
It was gathered that the pipeline went up in flames around 8 pm at Ekoro area of Abule-Egba.
The estimated value of the properties burnt in the fire incident could not be ascertained at the time of the report.
The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, stated that the activities of vandals caused the explosion.
“A raging fire from the explosion of a vandalized NNPC pipeline has caused panic among residents within Awori, U-turn and Pipeline communities in Abule Egba.
“The Lagos State Fire Service and LASEMA are responding and on top of the situation,” he said.
He confirmed that two adult males and a child have died in the fire with 11 trucks destroyed and several buildings razed.
“Two adult male and a child have been lost while eleven trucks laden with 40 feet containers were destroyed while, about seven buildings have so far been razed down by the inferno,” he said.
