The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and relevant ministries have partnered to boost safety by ridding the waterways of dirt and hyacinth.
LASWA’s General Manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, confirmed this to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.
He asserted that making the waterways navigable to boat operators was one of the authority’s top priority.
Emmanuel said that the Ikorodu Terminal will continually undergo clearing of the water hyacinth.
The authority, he said, will utilise manual labour and weed harvesting machines to check the menace.
The water channels at Ijede Jetty is also being fixed to stop water hyacinth from blocking the boat routes, Emmanuel stated.
Weed at the Bariga jetty, he said, are also being cleared.
He lauded the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development and LAWMA for partnering in the safety initiative.
