A safety investigator with the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Mr Charles Erhueh, has been appointed as Commissioner of the Banjul Accord Group Accident Investigation Agency (BAGAIA) by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
The agency which is overseen by the ICAO caters to the needs of its seven West African member states in the area of carrying out investigation of aircraft accidents in accordance with laid down global standards.
Mr Akin Olateru, the Commissioner of AIB, expressed happiness over the appointment of “one of our own” while highlighting the part Nigeria played in formulating and equipping the BAGAIA.
According to the Commissioner, the BAGAIA is a massive boost to aviation safety both in Nigeria and West Africa.
He further asserted that the appointment of Erhueh will serve to ensure safety in the sector in a bid to curb future aircraft accidents.
