The Chief Medical Director, University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo, says that smooth running of a hospital would be impossible without assuring the safety and security of patients, staff and visitors.
Otegbayo stated this at the end of a two-day training workshop for the institution’s security personnel on Wednesday in Ibadan.
According to him, the training was a necessary step to proactively tackle crisis and threat situations at the hospital.
“We decided that we should not wait till we have a bad or ugly incident before we wake up to our responsibilities.
“Like it happened in 2018, a member of the crown security staff was killed on UCH campus, it was an ugly incident; we do not want such to happen again,” the CMD said.
Otegbayo disclosed that CCTV cameras would be installed in the mortuary, accident and emergency department, and other hot spots in the hospital.
The CMD further disclosed that scanners would be mounted at the UCH main gate.
He urged the beneficiaries to deploy skills acquired during the course of the training to keep the institution safer for all.
