The Chief Executive Officer, Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Engr. Akin Olateru, has been conferred with the Fellowship award of the Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISE).
Olateru was decorated and conferred with the Fellowship award at the AIB office located at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday.
NISE National Chairman, Engr. Adeyemi Oyedepo, said that Olateru bagged the Fellowship award for exemplary feats in the field of safety engineering.
He added that the conferment signified that the awardee had attained the highest level in safety engineering, urging awardees to regard the award as a higher call to service.
“The conferment is an opportunity to honour and celebrate with Nigerians and non-Nigerian members who had attained the highest level in engineering safety,” Oyedepo said.
He called on the awardees to take advantage of the Fellowship to mentor others to achieve similar feats in safety engineering.
Olateru expressed gratitude to the safety engineering institution for considering him worthy of the Fellowship.
He said, “I thank you for your support and recognition. I will uphold the ethics, and also try my best anywhere I find myself.
“The Royal Aeronautical Society of UK recently awarded me Fellowship and I am the first in Africa to be awarded.
“The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport also awarded me a fellowship two weeks ago.
“So, I have moved from being a chartered member to a Fellow of the Institute.
“These are the kind of things that give me joy. I believe everything is not about money, but our commitment, being focused and doing a good job.”
NISE is an offshoot of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE).
