Adherence to fire safety rules prevented fire outbreaks during the last Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the Edo State Fire Service has said.
The Director of the service, Mr Franklin Agbolahor, disclosed this in Benin over the weekend.
He explained that fire outbreaks were rife during festive periods in the state but the last Eid-el-Fitr celebration was an exception as none was reported.
Safety Record recalls that Tuesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 5 were declared as public holidays to mark the Eid.
“Actually, fire outbreaks have reduced drastically in the state.
“I am not aware of any fire outbreak; there could be, but I am not sure because there is no information of such during the recent public holidays and till now,’’ News Agency of Nigeria quoted him as saying.
The fire director urged residents of the state to keep up compliance with fire safety rules to prevent and reduce disasters.
Agbolahor said, “What we want is total compliance of safety rules and regulations.
“Although one cannot really rule out fire out breaks as there is no perfect human being.
“Fire outbreaks are generally accidental, in nature.
“However, I advise on the need to adhere to safety values, rules and regulations for total reduction of fire risks.’’
