The Ogun State Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Clement Oladele, has warned motorists plying the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to exercise caution after a tanker conveying petrol crashed around NNPC LOTTO area of the road.
This was disclosed in a Sunday statement signed by the command’s Public Education Officer, Route Commander Florence Okpe.
According to the statement, the entire carriageway was cordoned with reflective tapes to forestall a fire disaster as a result of motorists running into the scene.
“The FRSC personnel are on ground managing the traffic, Sagamu fire services have been contacted, as standard practice before transloading and removal of the fuel tanker.
“JBN (Julius Berger Nigeria) have also been contacted to open the blocked section around the area, where they are currently rehabilitating , to allow vehicles have access to prevent gridlock,” the statement read in part.
Oladele advised motorists to cooperate with traffic and emergency agencies working to restore traffic along the route.
“Pending when the obstruction is removed, motorists are advised to drive cautiously and obey traffic rules and regulations, be lane disciplined and also cooperate with traffic managers managing the traffic situation.
“Motorists may wish to use alternate corridor to avoid the Lotto Area of Lagos – Ibadan Expressway around Mowe till the obstruction is completely removed.
“Traffic emergencies can be reported on FRSC toll free number 122,” the sector commander advised.
