An environmental expert, Mr Gafar Odubote, has called on the Lagos State Government to invest more in infrastructure to tackle waste management challenges in the state.
According to him, investment in waste management infrastructure and sensitisation would help in promoting a sustainable environment in the state.
He said, “Government should invest more in waste management infrastructure in the state; the population of the state is growing every day.
“The waste management infrastructure that should be put on ground needs to match the needs of the growing population in the state.
“We want a change in the state’s environment, as we hope that the incoming government will pay more attention to environmental issues.

“Government at all levels need to invest in sensitising Nigerians on the importance of a sustainable environment.
“This sensitisation can be via the mass media, TV and radio, to reach Nigerians at the grassroots level.
“People need to be educated on the implications of not keeping their environment clean or not clearing their drainages.
“They should be made to be aware that the state of their environment will result in the absence or prevalence of diseases such as malaria, cholera, typhoid fever, among other.’’
