The Lagos State Chapter of Nigerian Institution of Safety Engineers (NISafetyE) has vowed to assist the state government with the resolution of the challenges of constant traffic gridlock and frequent tank explosions in the state.
The Chapter Chairman, Engr. Oluseun Faluyi, made this known during his investiture and induction of 92 members and six associate members held recently.
He said that these were parts of the chapter’s targets to eliminate hazards, minimise risks to life and ensure health and safety of Lagosians.
He disclosed that the chapter would achieve the targets with the present crop of trained engineers and safety professionals.
Faluyi said, “Nigerian Society of Engineers established NISE to specifically curb environmental hazards and other actions and inactions of people which has led to loss of lives and properties especially in Lagos, and we must achieve this by ensuring that the right things are done by the right persons in all facets of our life.”
The chairman explained that the chapter took seriously its advisory role to the state government through the Lagos State Safety Commission.
He further disclosed that the chapter would continuously mobilise members to embark on advocacy, public education and enlightenment campaigns to attune Lagosians with necessary information on how to live and work safely.
Faluyi added that this would include safety measures to adopt during emergency situations.
He said, “The institution is ready to assemble personnel across all areas of safety to work with the Lagos State Governments in creating an integrated plan or upgrade existing plans to cater for the current challenges on the roads to ensure safety of persons, given the peculiarities in weather and climatic conditions in the state.”
