OHS Vs ROI: Dangerous Implications for National Sustainable Development

In many Organisations, Occupational Safety and Health is not considered as making any meaningful contributions to Returns on Investment. In budgeting, they see health and safety as an expense and not as an income earner; this determines the level of attention accorded proactive and reactive planning for safety.
As a result, there is a lot of unreasonable improvisation for cost cutting and unsafe practices leading to deadly accidents in the workplace. What is usually not consciously estimated is the fact that if a man sets out to work, the primary aim is to better his personal economy with an income, it is therefore, unreasonable to end up taking one’s life in the process or spending the income so earned in a hospital.
