Confusion Looms As ‘Sacked’ ISPON Registrar Fixes EGM

Embattled Substantive Registrar of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), Mr. Benson Adam-Otite has fixed an Extraordinary General Meeting for the institute, Safety Record Newspaper can authoritatively report.

The controversial EGM is scheduled for June 17, 2017, less than two months after another EGM called by the Acting Registrar of the institute, Mr Bola Aborode, held at EEJEM Hotels and Suites, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on April 26, 2017.

According to a notice of meeting dated May 25, 2017 and signed by Adam-Otite, the new EGM fixed for Port Harcourt, Rivers State is sequel to a Federal High Court judgment granting him leave to conduct the botched EGM earlier fixed for February 11, 2017 at the ISPON National Headquarters, Ikotun, Lagos.

“Permit me to use this medium to inform you once again that the judgement at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi vindicated the Registrar, Mr Benson Adam-Otite on the EGM called for 11th February, 2017.

“Following that judgment and having consulted widely, and with the support of the Life Members in an earlier signed letter to impress on me to call for an EGM for a way forward, I wish to inform you that the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), has been rescheduled…,” Adam-Otite wrote in the notice addressed to members of the institute which was obtained by Safety Record Newspaper.

The notice further quoted him as appealing to members to turn out en masse for the “very important meeting” to “peacefully resolve the crises bedevilling the institute out of court”.

However, the new EGM is coming a month after the institute terminated the appointment of Adam-Otite, a document signed by the institute’s President, Dr Nnamdi Ilodiuba, showed.

According to a “Notice of Termination of Appointment” dated May 15, 2017 and sighted by this paper, the registrar was relieved of his post following a resolution taken at the Uyo EGM.

This newspaper recalls that the registrar was purportedly sent on indefinite suspension at a controversial emergency meeting of the institute’s Governing Board of February 7, 2017.

The embattled registrar has frequently expressed his belief in settling the institute’s matters out of court, accusing the president of trying to oust him through illegitimate means.
