The Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr Hakeem Dickson has urged private school proprietors in the state to make provisions for safety in their budget so as to put the requisite safety measures in place, a statement said.
The statement obtained by Safety record Newspaper from the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy said that the DG assured school proprietors that the government was not out to penalise schools but to fashion out areas it could work together to ensure the overall safety of lives and property in schools in the state.
At the school safety stakeholders meeting on School Safety management systems held in Alausa, Ikeja, which comprised various associations, Dickson said that the Lagos State Government as a responsible government places premium on the safety of children in schools.
The DG reiterated his pledge on assumption of office to uphold the safety commission’s mandate of ensuring safety in Lagos state without leaving any sector, most especially schools where children spend a significant amount of their time.
Dickson stressed that putting safety measures in place would help to combat various safety infractions found in schools.
“What is the essence of being the best school in Nigeria if safety is inadequate?” the statement quoted him as saying.
The Director General disclosed that a safety audit would be conducted on all schools in the state to ascertain their adherence to safety standards.
