Nigeria does not have any trailer or articulated drivers’ training school

Mr. Kehinde Ologuntoye’s passion for safety dates back to when he was in the higher institution. As a Safety professional, he has played in the Oil and Gas and in the power sector. Today, he is a safety entrepreneur. His desire to give back to the society and contribute to the growth of others prompted him and his partner to start what today is known as Rated Cranes Nigeria and Scaffolding Limited. He serves there as Chief Executive officer.
In this interview with Safety Record Newspaper’s News Editor, Yinka Padonu, he shares insight on how the construction industry, articulated tanker and trailer drivers can minimize countless losses through accidents and incidents in the country.

Can you please give us a brief description of your background?

My name is Kehinde Ologuntoye. I am the Chief Executive Officer of Rated Cranes and Scaffolding Nig. Limited. I have a Masters degree in Safety from the University of Newcastle, Australia. I also have Masters in Occupational Health. I am a certified Safety Professional (CSP) I am also a chattered member of IOSH.

Can you enlighten us more about Rated Cranes?

Our company is into plant and heavy equipment training and hire. We operate the only dedicated FRSC approved heavy duty trailer driving and crane school in Nigeria. We started 2010 but not at this scale. However, we decided to take it to another level when we launched out in January 2016. But we have over the years been doing training but not at this scale where we have scaffolds, we have borehole drilling, excavator, and mobile crane, amongst others. We also sell and rent out.

Can you also share on how you found yourself practicing safety professionally?

My path to safety dates back to 1994 after finishing my Ordinary levels in Engineering, I moved over to Petroleum Training institute in Warri where I got introduced to safety and from there the passion began. After then I did my NEBOSH and other certifications that brought me to where I am today.
