Is it not amazing we have gone half way into the year already? Always looking forward to share tips and expand on what we know…welcome to July!
So much information is being shared on Tyre safety; I wouldn’t want to go over them again, but it will do us good if we continue to look at all we have shared and put them into practice. It is the truth that we do that set us free.

In closing this topic; beyond selection and inspection, I will be focusing on rotation and attention! Actually, the whole essence of this topic is to stimulate our sense of curiosity and how we can apply ourselves to giving more attention to our tyres like we have never done before; not just leaving them in care of our drivers or road side “vulcanizes” as we call them.

Some years back, I was amazed to see one of my two front tyres badly worn out even though the thread looks okay from outside, a closer inspection revealed otherwise. However, inspection is not enough if no action will be taken to correct observed deviation which would vary with risk exposure; no fast rule about this, it does have to do with how sincere we are!

Attention requires thorough inspection, looking after our tyres, asking the right question, consulting right people or material, terrain we subject our tyres to, the load and speed we put on them, taking the right steps to implement corrective/preventative measures for our safety should not be much a cost to us; periodic wheel alignment, balancing and tyre rotation.

Regular rotation helps extend the life of our tires (help to prevent uneven wear and prolong the lifespan of tyres) and improve performance. So if you like safety and saving money, during rotation, each tyre and wheel is removed from your vehicle and moved to a different position to ensure that all tyres wear evenly and last longer. Tyres should be rotated every six months or 10,000km to 12,000km whichever comes first.

Using tire rotation as a preventative maintenance will equalize front-to-rear and side-to-side wear rates while enhancing wear quality and pattern noise. This implies if we keep our tyres in good shape; our wallet reducing expenses, safety of lives and the planet less noise and lower carbon emissions could all be in a better shape.

Finally, it is necessary to note that several factors contribute to tyre safety; if one is compromised, the consequence can be fatal, therefore. We should not over emphasise one to the disadvantage of the other; rather consider as many variables as possible. Loading, speeding, selection, inspection, usage, inflating pressure is among many of these variables; our vehicle manual should remain our primary resource.

Road crashes are preventable…”do not be part of statistics”!
