Animal Care Services Konsult Nigeria Limited (ACSK) joined the rest of the world on 28th of April to mark the 2016 World Day for Safety and Health at Work as an in-house event which held in their office premises at Ogere, in Ogun State.
Speaking on this year’s theme, “Workplace Stress- A Collective Challenge” the President of the organization, Dr. Olatunde Agbato, said that a national occupational safety and health culture is one in which the right to a safe and healthy working environment is respected at all levels.
He added that ACSK as an organization has actively ensured a safe and healthy environment through a system of defined rights, responsibilities and duties with highest priority accorded to the principle of prevention.
He added: “In ensuring a sustainable safety culture and effective management of occupational safety health and environment, our employees are encouraged to actively participate in the implementation of preventive and control measures.
This we have been able to achieve through the provision of PPEs, setting up of a safety and PPE committee for compliance, provision of standard working tools and a policy of flexible working hours.”
Dr. Agbato reiterated that the company’s commitment to promoting safety consciousness, which is reflective in her design of occupational safety, health and environment policy as well as safety training plan that seeks to promote the safety and health of her employees.
In his remark at the event, the company’s safety officer, Mr. Olayemi Joseph, said, it is a proven fact that workplace stress management reduces accidents and increases productivity. He said that statistics shows most accidents could have been avoided if workplace stress is properly managed. He said that it is imperative for everyone to be aware of workplace stress and knowing how to manage them is crucial to working safely.
Joseph therefore enjoined all staff of ACSK to willingly comply with all safety rules, safety signs at their workplace and also observe bio security measures in place. Urging them that the signages are not meant for decorations but to remind everyone about safety.
The event did not end without the formal launch of safety policy statement and safety stickers by the company’s Executive Director in charge of commercial operations, Dr. Opeyemi Agbato, to raise safety consciousness among the employees of the company and also presentation of gifts to safety compliant staff.
