American agency to enhance safety on Nigerian roads

The Nigerian Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has expressed its interest in partnering with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to create road safety awareness locally.
This would enhance FRSC’s ongoing efforts to make the Nigerian roads safer.
President of the Society in Nigeria, Kamaldeen Abiodun, disclosed the plan during a courtesy visit to the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Boboye Oyeyemi, at the FRSC National Headquarters, Abuja.
Kamaldeen commended the FRSC for its aggressiveness in tackling the challenges of road safety, stated that members of the Society are impressed with the activities of the Corps.
He pointed out that what the FRSC’s efforts aligned fully with the goals of the Society.
Kamaldeen said the visit was to explore the possibility of partnership to assist members of the public in imbibing road safety consciousness.
He said the American Society of Safety Engineers was established many years ago and the Nigerian Chapter was opened later to promote its ideals of engineering safety, economy and other safety matters that affect the people.
Kamaldeen stressed that the Society shared the values on which FRSC operates, adding that members are convinced that collaboration with the Corps could enhance the cause of the two organisations.
“Having carefully observed what the FRSC has been doing in terms of awareness creation and enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, we saw the need for partnership with you to achieve optimal results,” he said.
Oyeyemi thanked members of the Society for the visit and stressed that as the lead agency for road safety management in the country.
“FRSC believes in the strategic roles that stakeholders play in creating the much desired public awareness on road safety matters,” he said.
Oyeyemi welcomed the collaborative initiative brought up by ASSE and promised to mobilise staff of the FRSC to key into the partnership initiative.
