The Chief Coordinating Officer, Nigeria Safety Award for Excellence (9jaSAFE), Mr Femi Da-silva, has announced a change in date of the 2017 Award Dinner billed to hold at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos.
He said the event, which was earlier fixed for Friday, September 8, 2017, was being moved forward by a week to September 15, 2017.
Describing the date change as “unavoidable,” Da-silva, who is also Managing Editor of Safety Record Newspaper, said it was to grant Nigerian OSH professionals attending the XXI World Congress for Safety and Health at Work 2017 in Singapore ample time to return to Nigeria.
He said, “The 21st World Congress for Safety and Health at Work 2017 will be held in Singapore from September 3 to 6, 2017, and from my interaction with top Nigerian safety professionals, a lot of them will be there.
“This is because the world congress is an important event in the field of occupational safety and health all over the world and Nigeria cannot be an exception.”
Da-silva added, “Having taken into account the distance between Nigeria and Singapore, and the obvious discomfort it could cause to participating Nigerian safety professionals who might also want to attend the 9jaSAFE Gala Night, the Award Organising Committee had to make a decision.
“We are therefore shifting the date from September 8 to 15.
“Although unavoidable, the decision to change the date of the award was not taken lightly.
“We regret any inconvenience caused to everyone eagerly anticipating the award.”
The World Congress for Safety and Health at Work is held every three years, with the latest edition scheduled for Singapore being organised by the Occupational Safety & Health Division, Ministry of Manpower, Singapore in conjunction with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
