The Federal Government has announced plans to establish a Federal Fire Service (FFS) zonal office in Minna, Niger state.
FFS Comptroller, Dr. Ibrahim Liman, made this announcement when he paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger in Minna.
He disclosed that the zonal office in Minna would be known as Zone G and consist of Niger, Kogi and Kwara states.
Liman disclosed that two modern fire fighting trucks and over 200 firefighters would be deployed for the take-off of the Minna zonal office.
This, he said, is to enhance quick response to fire disasters in the three states.
Liman called on the state government to aid the new command in the area of logistics in order to ensure the smooth take-off of operations.
“We need 200 mattresses and food items for the ongoing training of the newly recruited firefighters into the Federal Fire Service taking place in Minna.
“Similarly, we will appreciate the handling over of the land allocated for the zonal office and also two utility vehicles to help complement the efforts of the state fire service in fire risk assessment and support,” Liman said.
Governor Bello on his part thanked the FFS for the firefighting trucks, assuring the state government’s ability to maintain and sustain them.
The governor also urged the FFS boss to conduct periodic drill tests and staff training to ensure efficiency.
Bello then promised to provide the FFS with food items, mattresses and utility vehicles the moment resources were available.
