The Kaduna State Fire Service, on Monday, announced that 18 deaths were recorded in 75 fire incidents in the state between May and July this year.

The Director of the Service, Mr Paul Aboi, while speaking to newsmen, said the incidents occurred in Kaduna, Zaria and Kafanchan.

Aboi said that within the said period, June 24 to July 22 recorded the highest number of incidents with 30 fire outbreaks.

He further revealed that the Fire Service rescued 20 persons and saved N675 million worth of property during the time frame.

He however lamented the loss of properties worth about N264 million.

The fire chief attributed the fire incidents to negligence and improper installation of electrical appliances.

While advising residents on the proper handling of electrical appliances, Aboi urged the public against attacking men of the fire service.

He assured that the fire service was working on ways to curb fire incidence by sensitising residents on fire safety measures.
