One person was killed and 10 others injured after a petrol-laden truck exploded at Dikko junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway at 10:30 pm on Friday.

The Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Ahmed Inga, disclosed this on Saturday in Minna.

According to Inga, several vehicles were also burnt in the incident which cause was not immediately established.

“We received a report from our Suleja Desk Officer that there was a tanker explosion and many people were affected.

“We cannot give the actual number of people that lost their lives, we will confirm that during our assessment; but from the report of our Suleja Desk Officer, one person died in the incident.

“Many people were injured and several vehicles were completely burnt,” the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted him as saying.

Inga said that firemen from the Niger State Fire Service and Federal Fire Service combated the fire until it was finally controlled around 4:30 am on Saturday.

The NSEMA boss disclosed that the remains of the deceased was deposited at the morgue of Umaru Musa Hospital, Sabon Wuse, while the injured were being treated in the same hospital.

He added that the cause of the explosion would be ascertained when NSEMA officials visit the scene of the incident.
