The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to desist from driving recklessly or flouting traffic rules between September to December, popularly described as “ember months”.
The Oyo Sector Commander of the corps, Mrs Cecilia Alao, said this on Thursday ahead of the Christmas festive period.
She called for sanity on the road during this period and beyond, warning that the FRSC will not take lightly any traffic rule violations.
“I tell you in all honesty; the four months (September, October, November and December) are not different from other months.
“The cause of more accidents during the period is the non-compliance to traffic rules and regulations by motorists.
“If you observe traffic rules and regulations, if you do not speed, and you ensure that your vehicle is in good condition before setting out, there will be fewer accidents.
“I want to passionately appeal to our motorists both private and commercial, to please obey all traffic rules and regulations, check your vehicles and fix any fault and also attend to fault signals before hitting the road.
“Our men will cover the whole state to ensure that accidents are avoided or reduced to their barest minimum,” Alao said.
She noted that the FRSC would not relent in its objective of ensuring safety on the nation’s roads and highways.
Road parks, she stated, are one of such places where massive sensitisation will be carried out.
