The Coordinating Director of Ikere Local Government in Ekiti, Mrs. Titilayo Ojo, on Wednesday, appealed to both the state and federal governments to assist the community following recent flooding.
Ojo made the appeal in Ikere-Ekiti when receiving the Chairman, Ekiti House of Assembly Committee on Environment, Mr. Tunde Idowu.
She said that the rain that fell all through Tuesday night damaged properties and left many residents homeless.
According to her, the flooding on Tuesday swept many areas in the local government, rendering the council administration powerless to curb it.
“This situation is beyond the control of the council, I am calling on the federal and state governments to come to the aid of the community,’’ Ojo said.
Idowu in turn advised residents in the community against indiscriminate dumping of waste in drainage systems and building structures on waterways.
The lawmaker, who sympathised with the affected residents for their losses, assured the council boss that the assembly would collaborate with all relevant agencies like the State Emergency Management Board to find lasting solution to the disaster.
