The Anambra Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Ayodele Kumapayi, has confirmed that 25 persons survived two road crashes in Anambra state on Sunday.
Kumapayi informed journalists that 25 passengers including four children were involved in the two crashes which occurred in Awka and Onitsha respectively.
He said the Niger Bridge crash occurred at about 1:40p.m, involving seven people, 4 children inclusive.
He also disclosed that two vehicles, a Toyota Lexus car with registration number ABH 178 RC and Toyota Corolla car with registration number FST 555 AJ were involved in the Onitsha accident.
“The Lexus car lost control after trying to overtake a trailer, spun and hit the second vehicle on the Niger Bridge, but thankfully, no life was lost,” he said.
He revealed that 8 passengers in the commercial bus heading to Awka from Onitsha incurred severe injuries.
Kumapayi blamed the accident on overspeeding as the vehicle lost control along the expressway and delved into a drainage.
While urging drivers against overspeeding, he praised the FRSC’s response team that reacted to the situation within eight minutes of the incident being reported.
As of press time, normalcy had been restored to the accident scenes as all vehicles involved in the crash had been cleared out.
