The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says it has nabbed dealers of substandard liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in Katsina State.
State Coordinator of SON, Mohammed Jibril said that the “life-endangering” cylinders were discovered following a tip-off from the Department of State Services (DSS).
He disclosed that the cylinders were re-painted and re-marked for sale to unwary consumers, adding that the dealers failed to provide necessary documentation for the consignments.
Jibril cautioned Katsina residents against patronising substandard cylinder dealers, saying that substandard cylinders could leak and cause an explosion.
The SON state coordinator advised LPG cylinder dealers to stock only certified products, stating that the organisation would not hesitate to apprehend dealers in substandard cylinders and life-endangering products across the state.
Jibril hailed the DSS and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for their contributions to the success of the operation.
