The Federal Road Safety Corps on Friday called on the Imo State House of Assembly to place a ban on alcohol sale around motor parks in the state over road safety.

The Sector Commander, FRSC, Imo State, Francis Udoma, said this while on a courtesy visit to the State House of Assembly complex in the state capital, Owerri.

Udoma pointed out that virtually all alcoholic drinks sold at the car parks were laced with marijuana and other stimulants, adding that such a ban would help curb the high rate of road crashes prevalent in the state.

He lamented the situation where commercial and other drivers drive under the influence of alcohol.

The legislative house heard the complaints of the sector commander and promised to look into it.

The Speaker of the Imo House of Assembly, Collins Chiji, also pledged the assembly’s assistance to the FRSC in a bid to aid its job of preserving safety on Nigerian roads and highways.
