A Community Service Leadership Award has been conferred on female officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) for their dedication towards ensuring a cleaner Lagos.
The award ceremony tagged “LAWMA Women Making A Difference, Community Service Leadership Awards”, was held in Ikeja by Spotlight African Network (SAN).
The Managing Director of Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Ola Oresanya, highlighted the importance of the female street sweepers towards achieving a cleaner environment in the nation’s commercial capital.
Oresanya thanked SAN for putting together a safety training course for the sweepers as he explained that it would go a long way in “equipping the women with basic rules of safety”.
“Of particular interest to me, is the Safety Training Course, which the group has planned with the Federal Road Safety Corps for the women. This will go a long way in further equipping the women with basic rules of safety, while on their work beats. I must therefore specially commend your organisation , for the forward-looking initiative”, Oresanya said.
The President of Spotlight African Network, Mrs. Nonye Pearl Mike-Nnaji, stressed the company’s goal to “ensure the welfare of these street cleaners whose efforts most times go unnoticed”.
She said that the company was currently working with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to deliver a two-day safety training course to the cleaners so as to equip them with highway safety skills.
