Two men have been charged before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting an Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) worker.

Olalekan Faguntade, 37, and Ayodeji Ayeni, 40, were charged on three counts of conspiracy, assault and criminal damage.

The prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, informed the court that the incident occurred on July 21.

He said that the complainant, Mr Oluwafemi Balogun, was in the process of disconnecting the power supply at No. 6, Ifesowapo St., in Ogudu area of Lagos, over unpaid electricity bills when the accused persons assaulted him.

He stated that Balogun was performing his duty when the assault took place.

“The complainant disconnected the power supply to the defendants’ residence over huge debts.

“They dragged him down from the ladder and descended on him with several blows which caused some injuries to his body.

“They also damaged the fiber made ladder valued at N100, 000.

“The case was reported and the defendants were arrested,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence was contrary to Sections 171, 339(1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Bukola Mogaji who presided over the court set the defendant’s bail at N50, 000 each with one surety each.

The magistrate adjourned the hearing till August 23.
