The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has acquired 12 fire fighting trucks and water tankers to enable it battle fire outbreaks nationwide.

The delivery of the remaining equipment, Safety Record gathered, will cost N9.2 billion.

The Controller General (CG) of the service, Mr Ibrahim Liman, said that the new 6 zonal fire service headquarters, namely: Minna, Sokoto, Yola, Owerri, Asaba and Osogbo, will be allocated 2 vehicles each.

“However, the service cannot take delivery of the equipment due to cuts in the agency’s 2018 and 2019 budget proposal.

“This is in spite of the appeal made to the appropriate authorities to retain the service’s budget as proposed.

“It is in this regard, I am seeking the special intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari for special funds of the sum of N9.20 billion to ensure the delivery of the remaining equipment,” Liman said.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had earlier in 2017 and 2018 approved the procurement of 44 fire fighting trucks and water tankers.
