The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) says that 37 fatalities were recorded and 101 persons injured in a tanker explosion in Benue.
According to the corps, the injured were rushed to different hospitals and are currently receiving treatments for different degrees of burns.
Safety Record had earlier brought news regarding the explosion which occurred on Monday at Ahumbe village, Gwer East Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The affected tanker was trying to navigate past the potholes on the road when it fell.
Villagers subsequently rushed to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker, leading to an explosion.
The Sector Commander of FRSC in Benue State, Aliyu Baba, confirmed that 36 people died and 101 were injured to add to the one victim already confirmed dead.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), Benue State Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Dr. Terlumun Swende, further confirmed that the victims suffered 75 percent lower degree burns and more, stating that they were in critical condition.
