More fatalities have been recorded in Saturday night’s boat accident in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) stated that the boat which was en route Egbin in Ikorodu from Ajah was struck by the high waves of water, leading to the accident.

The CEO of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, had said that overloading and a faulty engine caused the boat accident.

But an on-the-spot investigation by LASWA revealed that the incident was caused by poor visibility on the part of the boat’s captain.

Safety Record gathered that none of the victims of the ill-fated boat had life jackets on.

General Manager of LASWA, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel stated that more bodies have been recovered taking the death toll to seven, while 10 more people are still missing and three people survived the accident as at Monday afternoon.
