The Bauchi Sector Commander of FRSC, Abdulrasak Najume, has seized the opportunity of a sensitisation programme held at the Muda Lawal Central Motor Park to remind personnel of their primary assignment, which he says is “to prevent road crashes”.

He made this assertion while speaking on the backdrop of reports accusing FRSC personnel of chasing down road traffic violators.

Najume reminded corps personnel that it is unethical to run after erring motorists.

Also, the sector commander appealed to the leadership of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to prevail on their members to adhere to traffic rules and obey FRSC personnel.

He said, “Our job is to prevent road crashes and ensure that our drivers comply with road rules.

“We want the National Union of Road Transport Workers leadership to help us educate their members that we are on the road to help them on road safety.

“If they are asked to stop, they should obey and simply answer our men.

“It is not part of our job to run after any driver, because we have seen so many cases that a driver who is running to avoid being questioned or arrested got involved in fatal accident.’’

He equally advised motorists to avoid overloading, drink driving and over-speeding, which he identified as leading causes of road crashes.
