The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Mr Saidu Mohammed, has confirmed that a man, 20, drowned in a pond at Kofar Mata by Hauran Balago Municipal in Kano, while taking his bath.

He made this known on Friday, June 14, identifying the victim as Mustapha Abdullahi.

Mohammed said, “We received a distress call today from one Malam Muhammadu Rabiu at about 08:00a.m. that Abdullahi’s body was found floating in a pond.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 08:06a.m.

“Abdullahi was rescued unconscious and was conveyed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

While saying that investigations were ongoing to discover the real cause of the incident, the PRO cautioned parents and guardians alike to restrict their children/wards from bathing in open waters for the sake of safety.
