No fewer than 1,618 fatalities were recorded in road crashes across the country between December 2018 and February 2019, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed.

In its ‘Report of Road Traffic Crash’ for the months of December 2018, January 2019, and February 2019, the Corps said that a total of 21,577 persons were involved in road crashes in the period.

According to the report, speed violation, wrongful overtaking, dangerous driving, tyre burst and brake failure were the leading causes of the crashes involving cars, minibuses, motorcycles, trucks, tankers and trailers.

FRSC further said that the Kaduna-Abuja highway had the highest cases of fatalities while Lagos-Ibadan, Abuja-Lokoja and Kaduna-Zaria were identified as routes with high record of road crashes within the period under review.
