The President of the Aeronautical Information Management Association of Nigeria (AIMAN), Surv. William George Ngere, has called on the Federal Government to approve an intervention fund to enhance safer and more efficient Nigerian airspace.

According to Ngere, the intervention fund was needed to complete the completion of AIS automation project that commenced in 2000 and stands at 60 per cent completion.
“While the realisation of the AIS Automation has been ongoing for a very long time, I must not fail to commend the Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika for his efforts at upgrading navigational facilities around the country,’’ he said.
He said that the issue of training AIS personnel on Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) and Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS) needed to be treated in order to ensure a smooth transition from Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) to the Aeronautical Information Management (AIM).
The General Manager AIS, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Mr Kabir Gusau, also urged the country to follow the world trend by implementing the automation project which will assure a higher productivity and aviation safety.
Ngere lauded the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Capt. Fola Akinkuotu for his drive in ensuring the AIS Automation project is finally delivered.
