The Director General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Osita Aboloma, has appealed to the public to report any suspected substandard building material found at any construction site or market to the agency.
Aboloma said that this would help check the menace of building collapse due to use of substandard materials.
The DG, who was represented by the Gombe State Coordinator, SON, Umar Yakubu, made the appeal at a sensitisation workshop for Northeast on building collapse in the state on Thursday, May 2.
Aboloma said that the sensitisation workshop became necessary to reaffirm responsibilites of stakeholders in the bid to achieve a safe building environment.
He equally urged stakeholders in the building industry to make use of genuine and certified materials for construction projects to prevent building collapse.
He said that the stakeholders would be contributing their quota towards this by complying with stipulated standards, regulations and national building codes before during and after construction projects.
