The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRSC) have joined hands in a bid to efficiently handle disasters and emergencies when they occur.

The Group Managing Director of the corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday.

The GMD stressed that its partnership with the Red Cross was all the more important given Nigeria’s tendency for natural disasters and conflicts.

Baru said, “Because disasters usually come unannounced, the best one could do to manage them is to remain ever prepared through consistent training and capacity development.

Therefore, as a corporation, we will consider partnering with you in your capacity development programmes so as to empower our personnel on the best ways to manage natural disasters and emergency situations.

“Over the years, our vast network of volunteers has lifted millions of Nigerians out of dire situations caused by natural and man-made disasters.”

Safety Record recalls that the corporation embarked on a similar venture with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) during the Corps’ Special Marshall Programme, where the FRSC trained a large number of NNPC staff on road safety.
