The CEO of Lagos State Traffic Management (LASTMA), AIG (rtd) Chris Olakpe, has squashed reports making the round regarding LASTMA officials not having the ability to arrest traffic offenders.
The comments which were attributed to Chris Olakpe, was slammed by LASTMA on a number of radio stations including Traffic Radio 96.1.
Using their official twitter handle, ‘@followlastma’, LASTMA tweeted on Thursday saying: “Our attention has been drawn to a fake news going round media houses about a statement credited to LASTMA CEO, AIG (rtd) Chris Olakpe on statutory operations of LASTMA particularly centered on arrest of traffic offenders.
“The CEO earlier today debunked the news on Traffic Radio 96.1 as he clearly stated that LASTMA has the powers to arrest traffic offenders as stated in Section 2 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law 2012.
“The General Public is advised to obey traffic rules, regulations and authorities.
