WSO Nigeria Train School on Safety in Edo State

In pursuit of its mandate of raising the safety consciousness of one-third of the Nigerian population by 2025, the World Safety Organisation (WSO) Nigeria chapter has organised a “School Safety Training” for staff of The Cradle Montessori Nursey and Primary School, GRA, Benin City, Edo State.

The training which is part of WSO Nigeria’s Safety and Emergency Response Ready (SafERR) project held on the school premises on January 7.

According to a report on the project made available to Safety Record Newspaper, 26 staff members of the school were trained, administered a short quiz after the training and issued certificates of SafERR participation after three days of grading.

Under the project, students and staff of schools in the Edo state capital are taught Basic School Safety; Slips, Trips and Falls; Fire Safety; and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), as a precursor to establishing World Safety units in schools and communities across the country.

“The students were made to understand that Slip occurs when one loses his/ her footing and slides on a smooth surface, while Trip occurs when one stumbles over an uneven or rough surface and either of such cases can lead to a fall.

“Preventive measures were also taught; like making use of shoes with good grip on smooth surfaces and being cautious when walking on a surface that is uneven.

“They were taught the Major Classes of Fire, the Causes and the type of Fire Extinguisher used for each case,” the report said.
