Earlier, the Director of Research at the commission, Mrs Ronke Odeneye, while introducing the Safety Record Newspaper team to the DG said that there has been a cordial relationship between the two organisations and lauded Alebiosu, who is also the CEO of the Nigeria Safety Awards for Excellence Hall of Fame (9jaSAFE Awards), for recogising deserving safety practitioners through the award.
While commending the newspaper for its giant strides recorded, Dickson urged the paper to be in the forefront of holding companies in the state responsibility for unsafe practices by conducting investigative reporting and giving adequate coverage to such practices.
He said that the commission by disseminating information through the medium would encourage safety professionals to patronise it.
Also speaking, the Managing Editor of Safety Record, Mr. Femi Da-Silva, commended the commission for the level of support it has so far offered the paper as regards the organisation of the Nigeria Safety Award for Excellence Hall of Fame.
He said, “Safety Record Newspaper wants to congratulate the new DG of the Lagos State Safety Commission on his appointment and also appreciate the commission for the support she has been having for the past years as it relates to the 9jaSAFE Award.”
The award which was in its second edition held at the Lagos Oriental Hotel on September 9.
Da-Silva said that the award has contributed to raising safety awareness within the society as it recognises those who tirelessly contribute to making our society safe for others.
However, he said that lots of resources were expended on the success of the award.
Responding to the DG’s call on holding companies accountable through investigative reporting, Alebiosu urged the DG to further ensure that the commission utilizes the media especially a specialized publication like Safety Record Newspaper to pass the commission’s message to Lagosians.
